It's officially winter! Actually, it has been for a little over two weeks but just had to mention that since I need that reminder and you might too because..what is going on?!. If you are like me, the weather will have you believe that it is not winter since it is not freezing cold, no snow, and no sleet. I am aware that certain parts of the country do have several inches of snow. Nonetheless, most of the country and parts of the world are warm. Unbelievably warm! Seriously, it is warm everywhere from what I have heard and read.  For instance, it is in the 60s-70s in various parts of Southern America.

Now even though winter has arrived, there are still certain items needed for winter. Why? Well, you never know when the temperature will drop to the 20s, teens, or zero and below. Since the weather is unpredictable, it's best to be as prepared as possible.

You might be wondering, " How can I do that?" Get some warm and cute clothing, accessories, and...boots! If you are unsure of what kind of boots to get, keep reading for some ideas.

The boots I am going to be showing are boots that I have had for almost 3 years! I bought them on sale at Macy's because I love to purchase most of my clothes, shoes, and everything else on sale/ clearance when I can help it. I also needed new boots especially since it was winter.

These are the  3 BEST boots you need to add to your winter style:

  1. XOXO Taniah Ankle boots [ RED ]

There you have it! Three boots [from Macy's] to take your winter style to the next level. Now, you will be warm, cute, and stylish!  My favorite is #3 because of the block heel. Which one will you be adding to your boot collection? Let me know in the comments below.

Self-care is so important. By that, I mean taking care of your internal and external body is equally important. About 5 years ago or so, I really got into drinking detox water and teas. I began to get serious about being healthier.

Since this continues to be the case, I was so pleased when Influenster and Twinings sent me the complimentary product. What was it? The twinings cold infuse! I have never had anything like this nor had I ever heard or seen the product. As a result, I was even more intrigued to try it! There are a variety of flavors. The flavor I received was lemon and ginger!

Before I go any further, I do want to say that I have had some sort of infusing before. The infuse that I usually drink is with real fruit, mainly strawberries or lemon with some peppermint along with a few ice cubes.

This infuse wasn't like that. With this infuse, you put the teabag in at least 8 oz of cold or room temperature water. Leave it to sit for about 5 minutes and then you can enjoy it!

You can drink it any time of the day. However, I decided to drink it in the morning. I'm sure the benefits will be useful no matter when you drink it 🙂

Every once in a while I like to wear faux lashes. I don't know how people can wear them daily. Whew! At first, I was not a fan of them because it seemed complicated to put them on. Not only that, it would almost always take me 30 minutes to get the lashes right or the glue would get in my eye! Ugh! Nonetheless, I still liked to wear them. Just used a lot of caution. My go-to is usually the Ardell natural lashes or the L.A. colors faux lashes. This was until I heard about magnetic lashes!

I wanted to try them out but wasn't in a rush to do so. However, when I saw one of my best friends wear them, I knew I had to give it a shot. They looked very nice on her and her experience had been a great one!

Ironically, just as I was thinking about purchasing the magnetic lashes, Influenster and Kiss sent me a complimentary product. You guessed it! They sent me magnetic lashes! I was very relieved because I was able to save some money but also try a product I was curious about

The one that I received was the Charm. Not only did it come with the magnetic lashes but also the eyeliner which was black!

Here are my pros and cons:

Pros

Easy application

Available at Target, Walmart, and Amazon

Looked natural

Lashes stayed on the whole time I wore them

Easy to take them off

Cons

Some difficulty cutting since the magnets keep getting attached to the scissors

There can be smudging

There is my review on the Kiss magnetic lashes! Have you tried magnetic lashes before? Let me know in the comments below.

Winter is underway! The fabrics that are usually worn to keep us warm and cozy are wool, silk, cashmere, and velvet. I love wearing all of these but my absolute favorite is velvet!

Every time I watch classic shows from the 80s and 90s such as Living Single, Saved By The Bell, Boy Meets World, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, The Nanny, and Martin, I was always delighted by the fashion. Especially the Velvet outfits!

Typically, the velvet dresses were worn with tights and heels or the velvet blouse would be paired with high-waisted jeans along with ankle boots. Absolutely cute and comfortable!

Ever since then, I said, " I need some velvet in my closet!" Now, of course, it can be worn year-round. You might be thinking, "Really?!" Oh yes! For example, during the warmer months in the summer, you can opt for spaghetti tops and crop tops. My preferred time to eat velvet is during the colder months. Specifically, Fall and Winter.

Additionally, you can be casual or dressy with velvet. Three of the most popular velvet colors are red, green, and black. Black will probably be the first color that people will go for. I do understand as that is one of my favorite colors. As is red. However, green is actually the first color I go for when it comes to the cold weather!

Here are 17 velvet outfits to add to your closet:

During my pregnancy, my hair grew a lot mainly because of the hormones. What I was eating also contributed of course. However, do you know what happened 3 months after I gave birth? Hair loss! I experienced postpartum hair loss. I had a protective style towards the end of my pregnancy so I did not think the hair loss would be how it was. Yet, I was surprised by how much hair I lost. I knew I would lose hair as I had been doing my research but...my goodness.

As soon as I noticed this, I reached out to a few hairstylists I knew. One of my really good friends, Tanacia O. of Kinky Kurls, LLC [IG: Kinky Kurls ; website- https://www.kinkykurls7.com/] referred me to a black and woman-owned business called crownedjewelsatl. She had great success with the products she purchased from the company. Once she told me about it, I had to give it a shot! When I started using it, I noticed that the hair loss decreased over two weeks. So what did I do? I continued to use it! Since then, I have been using the products! It has been about 7 months and the products are so amazing! My three go-to products are Rosewater, WAP butter, and Mother Earth Oil. I use these three hair products twice a day [ morning and evening ]

Rosewater

Mother Earth Oil

There you have it! These are three hair products that I have been using every day since March 2021. Furthermore, I use the products in the order I have them listed since the LCO ( leave-in/liquid, cream, oil ) method works best for my hair!

I even got my hair cut in June 2021 and the products have still helped to promote hair growth! My hair used to be very dry. Now, my hair is very moisturized and doesn't get dry 🙂 Anyway, which of these products will you be trying? Let me know below!

As a thirty-something-year-old woman, more specifically a thirty-something-year-old black woman, I tend to have a hard time fully relaxing before bed. Until a couple of years or so, I thought self-care was just saying a prayer and going to sleep or using your PTO. There are other ways, too!

Sometimes with trying to juggle different hats (Ex: mother, wife, student)we forget to take care of…ourselves. In fact, the best time that I truly engaged in self-care was during my pregnancy and postpartum. It was a challenge to consistently take the same measures because as previously stated I was juggling different hats and putting myself last. I am still guilty of doing this!

It is so important that we take a few minutes to do some form of self-care. Not just in the morning but also at night.

Here are five ways to relax before bed

1. Take a warm, soothing bath ( I usually try to do this once or twice a week)

It can be really tough to do this one. However, I find that if I do this at least twice a week, I sleep really well. Throw in some bath salts or bath bombs and just soak while listening to some soothing jazz or lofi or whatever helps you unwind.

2. Turn off the electronics

I know it is not easy to turn off electronics because we want to stay up to date with what is going. However, it is important to put your phone on DND ( "Do Not Disturb" ) and eventually turn the phone off. Honestly, it is easier for me to do the DND but I am working on just turning the phone off. It can be difficult to free your mind when notifications go off constantly.

3. Prayer or Meditation

I have been doing this one since I was a little girl. Well, I mean the prayer. Meditation is something I did on and off in college but consistently when I was actively working out. It was hard for me to do since I became really busy. However, once I became pregnant, I was determined to be stress-free; the meditation did wonders for me. Now, I am slowly but surely trying to get back into meditation, day and night!

4. Light yoga

This is something I have done so many times! However, I did not know it was called light yoga. Besides the sun salutation ( see below ), there are other amazing yoga poses you can do which include, hand to foot pose ( Pada hastasana ) and Extended triangle pose ( Utthita Trikonasana ) A good stretch does the body good!

5. Sip a warm beverage

There is nothing like having a warm beverage. This can be a cup of chamomile tea, Horlicks, Milo, or your preferred warm beverage. A nightcap does wonders!

If you were having a hard time relaxing before bed, try one, two, or all of these methods! You will sleep better 🙂

As much as I love my hair [ currently sporting a TWA or teeny weeny afro] sometimes, I want to just give my hair a break. To be honest, I look through a couple of my Pinterest boards for a couple of hours over a two-week span. Why? I need to figure out what protective hairstyle I want. This mainly happens when I see that my hairstylists' calendars are booking...quickly! All the hairstyles I come across are so beautiful that at times, I have a bit of a struggle picking the one I want to wear for 6-8 weeks. Besides, I am sure I am not the only one who goes through this!

Anyway, here are 15 beautiful protective hairstyles you can try any time of the year:

Vitamin C is so essential to our bodies. We intake this vitamin daily when we eat fruits and vegetables such as oranges, strawberries, guava, and even...parsley! I was not aware parsley contained Vitamin C so I am actually shocked. Sometimes, that is not enough and we need an extra boost to fight off infections and illnesses. This is when I would drink Emergen-C. Usually, I drink Emergen-C during the fall and wintertime. Why? I think because I am more likely to fall sick around that time. As a result, I stock up around those times. The flavors I usually pick up are orange and cherry.

Thankfully, Emergen-C and Influenster sent me a complimentary product for my honest opinion. Which flavor did I receive? The raspberry flavor!

Honestly, I did not know that flavor existed. Of course, I was happy to try it especially since I like raspberry!

Natural fruit flavor raspberry

Emergen-C Raspberry flavor

Natural fruit flavor raspberry

Emergen-C Raspberry flavor

After drinking this flavor, here are my thoughts:

Pros

Contains antioxidants, Vitamins, and Electrolytes

1 packet is enough

Caffeine-free

Nice smell

Can be found at Target, Amazon, Sam's Club & Walmart

Cons

Needs time to dissolve before drinking

I can say I do prefer this flavor over the orange and cherry! Of course, I am still going to make sure I get my vitamins and antioxidants from fruits and vegetables. However, it is good to keep a box of Emergen-C around for an extra boost to your immune system!

Which flavor is your favorite? I would love to read your thoughts in the comments.

It has been a few years since I went to a wellness place. Actually, the last time I went was for a pop-up shop with iwi fresh x Besida which was almost two months ago. Great vibes! Before then, I had not set foot in a wellness place in years. Jeju is typically the place I go to because it is very close to my residence and I have a good time every time. However, I wasn't sure what to expect since I had not gone since the pandemic.

I did go with two of my best friends and they informed me of the warm bath.

Warm bath

Again, this was not my first time going to Jeju but I had not gone to the warm bath. The day before I was going to Jeju I did read a review that stated you can get nude. However, I had not been to that part of the building before so I did not know exactly where it was located.

Well, my girlfriends showed me. Initially, I was concerned but I am so glad we took the warm bath. Before the warm, hot, or cold bath, you do have to use one of their showers. Not only that but you can wash and condition your hair with their aloe products!

As soon as I was immersed in the big bath, I let out a huge sigh. It was instantly relaxing! I did not care that I was nude especially since the other ladies were as well. Everyone was so comfortable and relaxing.

Right after that, we went to the sauna. There is the dry sauna and the steam sauna. I will admit that the thought of going in the steam sauna freaked me out. Of course, my girlfriends assured me it wasn't too bad. So, what did I do? I went with them and...I could only be in there for 2 to 2 1/2 minutes. For the short amount of time that I was in there, the sage helped me to remain calm. I enjoyed this and will try to stay in longer next time!

Once we got out of the sauna, we did take another shower.

The next stop was the salt sauna.

Salt Sauna

I was already aware of these since I had already been to Jeju a couple of times before. There are 9 saunas.

Here are some of the saunas:

Salt Sauna

Charcoal Sauna

Gold & Silver Sauna

I liked them all but my favorite is the Jewel Sauna. I was able to do some self-reflection in that one.

Let's eat!

Finally, we went to their restaurant because...why not? The food is delicious!  There is anything from soup to egg rolls. I was worried because it seems a bit too crowded for me. But once 3 or 4 tables became vacant, I felt comfortable eating in the dining area.

Final thoughts

All in all, I will go back. It felt great to have a self-care day! Sometimes as a mother and wife, I forget that I need to make more time for myself. Going to Jeju reminded me that I need to do this more often than not. I do like to self-care at home but occasionally it's nice to be pampered outside of the home too. If you live near Gwinnett County or are ever in that area, check out Jeju!
